PAN B611-1 — nRF54L15 MCU module (U1)

The Panasonic PAN B611-1 is the MCU/radio module used as U1 on all six nRF54 boards (Tag 230220, Station 232200–232204). This page is the single source of truth for module-level facts: ordering variants, the module-pin ↔ nRF54-GPIO mapping, footprint/keep-out rules, and certifications.

Board documentation references signals by nRF54 GPIO name only (P1.04, P0.03, …) — the mapping to physical module pins lives here. See Firmware Compatibility for the function-per-board GPIO master table.

Manufacturer Panasonic Industry
Ordering number used ENW89861B01F (chip antenna + onboard 32.768 kHz crystal)
SoC Nordic nRF54L15 CSP47 (CAAA) — derived 2026-08-16: the module exposes P1.15, which only the CSP47 package has (QFN48 lacks it, per nRF54L15 DS v1.0 §10.1); confirm with Panasonic as a formality
Dimensions 10.35 × 9.80 × 1.90 mm (stepped-pin package)
Crystals 32 MHz + 32.768 kHz integrated (B01F variant)
RF Internally matched; on-board chip antenna = TDK ANT016008LCS2442MA1 (0603 multilayer, 1.6 dBi typ, VSWR 1.6 typ) — identified from the FCC filing's antenna exhibit (local copy, fccid.io T7V-B611)
Antenna keep-out 5.0 × 3.25 mm, all layers (Product Specification p. 24)
TX / RX −8…+8 dBm / −96 dBm @ 1 Mbps (−94 dBm @ 2 Mbps) — +8 dBm is consistent with Nordic's package spec (CSP = 8 dBm, QFN = 7 dBm; nRF54L15 DS v1.0) since the module is CSP47-based
Est. price ~8–10 USD @ 10k; MOQ 500

Design depends on the onboard 32.768 kHz crystal

No EverTag PCB carries an LFXO footprint — the LFCLK source is the module-internal crystal of the B01F variant (module pins D1/E1 = P1.00/P1.01 are used internally; on the external-crystal variant ENW89861A3KF they would be exposed). Any module substitution must provide the crystal on-module or add one to the PCB.

Layout rules (B1)

  • Footprint: stepped-pin land pattern per Product Specification — pads extend outside the silkscreen outline for AOI (Rev B1 ECN-08/ECN-09); one shared Altium footprint cell for all six boards.
  • Antenna keep-out: 5.0 × 3.25 mm copper-free on all layers under the antenna area (Rev B1 ECN-03/ECN-04).
  • Supply decoupling is a specified requirement, not a recommendation. Product Specification §5.1 Design Note 3: "The supply voltage must be free of AC ripple voltage… For noisy supply voltages, provide a decoupling circuit (for example a ferrite in series connection and a bypass capacitor to ground of at least 47 µF directly at the module)." The EverTag rail is fed by a TPS62160 switching regulator at 2.25 MHz, which is a noisy supply by this definition.

⚠️ This requirement is not met on B1 hardware — no series ferrite and no ≥47 µF bulk capacitor exists at the module VDD pin in the current design. Tracked as ECN-33: the series ferrite is adopted (decided 2026-09-10), the bulk capacitor is gated on a bench measurement of the TX-burst droop. Note the condition is "for noisy supply voltages" — it applies to the Station boards, fed from the TPS62160 buck, and not to 230220, where the module runs directly off the cell. The AN54LV-15 articles need their own basis for this: the requirement quoted above is Panasonic's, from the PAN B611-1 Product Specification, and the Raytac AN54LV-15 datasheet states no equivalent rule — its reference circuit (DS §8) shows only C10 4.7 µF at VDD_NRF (pad 20). The concern may well be valid on both modules, but argue it from Nordic's own nRF54L15 reference circuit rather than by extending Panasonic's wording to a Raytac part. - No external RF routing or matching on the host PCB. - Standard reflow profile.
