Power Base Module — EU / Worldwide Charger (interchangeable plug)

Purpose — initial specification & RFQ basis

This page establishes an initial specification and request-for-quotation (RFQ) basis for the EU / Worldwide Power Base Module. It is supplier-agnostic: we intend to discuss it with our current power-module supplier and may also invite alternative suppliers to quote. Suppliers are expected to offer against this spec — the values below are our requirements/intent, to be confirmed by the chosen supplier.

A universal-input USB charger with user-swappable AC plug heads — the "attach the head that suits your region" design common to Chinese USB chargers. One charger body covers worldwide markets (including the US) by clipping on the appropriate plug head.

Different product from the US 232507

The US Charger 232507 is a fixed NEMA 5-15 duplex pass-through wall-mount that keeps the user's wall sockets. This EU / Worldwide variant is a single plug with no pass-through outlet and a universal 100–240 V input. They are separate products; the US head on this variant does not replace the 232507 pass-through use case.

1. Summary

2. Interchangeable plug heads

Focus is on four heads covering the large majority of markets:

Head Plug standard (IEC type) Earth Mains Freq Regional mark
US NEMA 1-15 (Type A, 2-blade) none 120 V (100 V JP) 60 Hz (50/60 JP) cULus / cETLus (PSE for JP)
EU CEE 7/16 Europlug (Type C) none 230 V 50 Hz CE / UKCA
UK BS 1363 (Type G) + integral fuse 230 V 50 Hz UKCA / CE
AU AS/NZS 3112 (Type I) (+earth) 230 V 50 Hz RCM
  • The charger is Class II (double-insulated, no protective earth), so the 2-pin US/Europlug heads are appropriate; grounded heads (Schuko Type E/F, Type I) only needed if a design requires earth.
  • The UK head must contain an integral fuse (BS 1363, typically 3 A).
  • The US head makes this variant cover the US/Canada electrically — but as a single plug, no pass-through (see note above).

3. Electrical ratings

Parameter Rating Notes
AC input 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz Universal — one converter for all heads
DC output 5 V / 2 A (10 W), isolated, Class 2 USB Type-C; no PD (shared with 232507)
Insulation class Class II (double-insulated) 2-pin heads acceptable
Efficiency DoE Level VI (US) / Ecodesign EU 2019/1782 (EU) Mark per market

4. Certification scope (per region — to define)

Interchangeable plug ≠ single certification

A swappable head saves tooling/SKUs, not regulatory work. Each plug/market combination is certified and marked for that market.

  • EU/UK: EN/IEC 62368-1 (CB Scheme report can bridge), EMC EN 55032/55035, Ecodesign EU 2019/1782 → CE / UKCA.
  • US/Canada: UL 498 + UL 1310 (or UL 62368-1 for power unit), FCC 15B (SDoC), DoE Level VI → cULus / cETLus.
  • Australia/NZ: AS/NZS 62368.1 + EMC → RCM.
  • Japan / China (optional): PSE / CCC.

5. Shared with the US project

Enclosure material (Loton 5420HE, flame-retardant PC, UL94 V-0 @ 1.5 mm), the 5 V / 2 A Class 2 USB-C output, and the "Connectivity Module budgets its own draw" principle are shared. See US Charger (232507) §5.

6. Open decision

  • Does the EU / Worldwide variant replace or complement the US 232507 pass-through? (232507 keeps the duplex pass-through wall-mount; this variant is a simple single-plug universal charger.)
  • Which markets ship in the first EU/WW batch (drives which heads + marks are needed first)?

7. RFQ — expected supplier scope & deliverables (to populate)

Suppliers quoting against this spec are expected to cover the items below. Mirror the US supplier-alignment table, swapping in: universal 100–240 V input, the four interchangeable plug heads, EN/IEC 62368-1 + CE/UKCA/RCM, and Ecodesign efficiency. Each respondent should state what is in-scope of their offer (design, tooling for heads, regional certifications/marks, test reports) and any assumptions.
